Hello lovely readers. How are you all?
What a time of year it is. Christmas lights, decorations and yummy food. A time where we all like to indulge, maybe a little too much! All I seem to be eating is biscuits, cheese and chocolate but not necessarily in that order.
Amongst all the delicious food at Christmas, the one thing I love the most is cheese. Last year I fell pregnant at Christmas time and didn’t get to sample as much cheese as I normally would. Therefore this year I plan to make up for that and eat my weight in the stuff. With all the fancy cheese you can buy in the shops, the one constant cheese that my family and I have always eaten is Boursin. There’s just something about it that you can’t match. The crumbly texture, the savoury creamy taste that keeps you coming back for more and more. It’s addictive. Maybe I need help.
Every year, my husband and I have started a bad habit of doing our own cheese board night. Before kids it used to be accompanied by a glass of wine, but now that would send me into a trance. And yes, that is Ribena in the picture below pretending to be wine. Please don’t judge me.
We put the kids to bed (although my little one most likely will be joining us as sleep doesn’t seem to appeal to her) and set up a large board of highly calorific food. Cheese in all its forms, camembert, brie, Boursin, Cheddar and whatever else we can find, alongside crackers, grapes, cured meats, clementines, spicy nuts, figs, crusty bread, chutney’s and more. Jay and I are not quite grown up enough for blue cheese yet but maybe we will try it one day when we are bigger.
We put on a Christmas movie and have at it. Although as we are ageing we may reduce the amount we eat now because my joints are starting to hurt as I approach the wrong side of my thirties. Do you have any Christmas foodie traditions?
I have so many happy memories of Christmas when I was younger. But one of the simple memories I have was watching a movie marathon of Lord of the Rings with my parents and my brother. Then my Mum and I would get slightly bored (I know I’m sorry!) while my brother and Dad were glued to the screen, and we would start playing Scrabble. My Mum would always crush me at Scrabble and grin like a small child. Sometimes it’s just the little things that bring you the most joy.
This time of year is always a bit bittersweet for some people. There are some whose hearts ache for a missing person at the dining table. There are those who are dealing with unimaginable situations at the moment. Whilst we all try our best to make the most of what we have, my heart goes out to those who simply cannot bear it. All I can say is that I am sending you my love. Life can be a real rollercoaster sometimes.
Whatever you plan to do this holiday, I hope it brings you a little light and happiness. As always, thank you for reading and I wish you a very Merry Christmas. Love, B.
