Meliz’s Spinach and Feta Open Borek

Hello lovely readers! How are you all?

It’s been an exciting couple of weeks in sport hasn’t it? I am not a huge football fan but even I am getting excited about England’s prospects! I’ve been following the tennis at Wimbledon and really enjoying the matches. Although it’s very hard to watch a full match with little ones. One day I dream to visit Wimbledon and enjoy a match with strawberries and cream and a nice cold drink in my hand.

I’ve been enjoying the summer months recently, even when it is raining and windy (what is with that?). There is always so much to do. I heard that Frozen the Musical was due to finish this September and I couldn’t miss such an opportunity for my daughter Kaiya. She is a huge fan of Frozen and I wanted her to experience theatre for the first time.

I left my baby with my hubby and Kaiya and I set off on the train to London to watch Frozen. I had a very very excited little girl with me. We had a lovely lunch in Covent Garden where we bumped into lots of mini Elsa’s about to watch the show as well. Then the show began and we were both hooked. The show was absolutely sensational! I’ve forgotten how much I enjoy theatre in the West End. It was such a magical experience.

For those of you who know me well, you know I have a small addiction to cookery books. I love the feel of brand new books, the beautiful imagery, the new and exciting recipes but most of all they are a little window into somebody’s world.

My recent purchase is Meliz Berg’s ‘Dinner Tonight’. I had the pleasure of working with Mel on a shoot last year for AEG. I was about 8 weeks pregnant and had a terrible stint of morning sickness. I remember arriving on the shoot at around 7.30am and had to start prepping big chunks of beef ribs! I managed to get through it without throwing up everywhere. Although the team didn’t know I was pregnant at the start, everyone was so lovely. Mel was especially kind and encouraging. And her recipes are to die for! So I just had to purchase her latest book to show my support.

This is the first recipe I’ve tried from the book. I found a local Turkish supermarket and managed to get the ingredients I needed. It’s amazing what you can find on your doorstep. It’s puff pastry filled with a mixture of spinach, feta, onions, spices and more, finished with a drizzle of honey. It was absolutely delicious! I can safely say I’ll be trying lots more of her recipes and look forward to reading more of the book. Go and check it out!

I hope you all have a nice weekend ahead. Will you be watching the football? Come on England! (Like I know what I am talking about ha ha). Thanks for reading!
